Methods	Randomised controlled trial
Participants	Inclusion criteria: Age 18‐65 years Primary DSM‐IV diagnosis of BPD (assessed with the SCID‐II interview) BPD severity above 20 on the BPDSI interview
Interventions	118 group schema therapy sessions over 2 years with maximum of 17 individual sessions 64 group schema therapy over 2 years with maximum of 61 individual sessions TAU ‐ the standard treatment given for that patient at the treatment centre
Outcomes	Primary outcomes: BPD severity index ‐ mean score
