Cell shape and mitochondria localization modeling procedure. Images were segmented into cell and nuclear shapes and these were aligned using the SPHARM-RPDM method. An aligned original image (A) and the segmented cell (red) and nuclear (gray) shapes (B) are shown; these were used to create a shape-space model. The individual mitochondrial objects from the original image were found using a Gaussian mixture model (C); their positions were modeled as a probability density function (D).
