(a) Nuclei are surrounded by chloroplasts in the typical 'daisy flower' arrangements in N. benthamiana abaxial epidermal cells. (b) In the spongy mesophyll of Arabidopsis, nuclei are in contact with but not surrounded by chloroplasts. (c) A nucleus with surrounding chloroplasts from N. benthamiana abaxial epidermal cells, displaying occasionally observed stromules under low light conditions.
