The specific activity of sucrase-isomaltase is reduced in BBM/P2 fractions. Caco-2 cells were treated or not treated with dextran sulfate sodium (DSS). The cellular homogenates were separated into intracellular+ basolateral membranes and brush-border membranes (BBM/P2) using CaCl2. The specific activity of sucrase-isomaltase (SI) versus sucrose as a substrate in BBM/P2 fractions was measured. The results revealed a 3-fold approximate significant reduction of SI activity in DSS-treated Caco-2 cells in comparison to the control (Ctr) non-treated cells.
