Variation among six populations of autumn bluegrass (Poa autumnalis) in which we assessed both (A) vertical transmission (percentage of laboratory-grown seedlings bearing Epichloë; F5,175 = 8.47, P < 0.0001, r2 = 0.19), and (B) germination (percentage of seeds that germinated in the laboratory; F5,173 = 56.36, P < 0.001, r2 = 0.62). Populations were ordered by increasing seedling endophyte prevalence. Symbols show means ± s.e. Sample sizes are given in Table 1.
