MCE leads to IOP elevation that, in turn, generates a downstream cascade that, through the induction of gliosis and inflammation, triggers RGC degeneration by apoptosis and visual dysfunction. The diet supplement, acting as a direct neuroprotectant, reduces gliosis, inflammation and apoptotic processes thus sparing RGCs from death and counteracting visual dysfunction.
