Fluctuations in intracellular calcium (Ca2+) concentration, along with glutamatergic and dopaminergic signals, might rapidly modulate intracellular pathways to regulate aromatase activity via phosphorylation/dephosphorylation processes. As a result, the transformation rate of testosterone (T) into 17 beta-estradiol (nE2) may be rapidly regulated.
