Difference in spectral responses to the presentation of fear-conditioned (CS+) and neutral control stimuli (CS–) collapsed over age groups (YA and OA). During reconditioning trials (a), CS+ elicit a stronger low-frequency desynchronization compared with CS–. During the dichotic listening task (b), the low-frequency desynchronization is reinstated in the absence of somatosensory stimulation. For each frequency, the raw power values are expressed as the relative power (dB) with respect to the power in a baseline interval (t = –1.5-0 s, with respect to CS onset). After baseline correction, the difference between conditions is calculated (CS+ vs CS–). For visualization, data are averaged across all electrodes. For associated statistics, see Figure 7.
