Upregulation of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor in pregnancy may increase the risk of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection. Binding of virus to ACE2 causes its downregulation and may increase angiotensin (Ang) II relative to Ang-(1-7), thus favoring vasoconstriction, which can mimic/worsen vascular dysfunction in preeclampsia.
