In addition to the eight studies included in previous versions of the review, we have included 10 new studies (Dencker 2006; Gemynthe 1996; Greenberg 2004; Kettle 2002; Leroux 2006; McElhinney 2000; Nikolov 2006; Saint 1993; Spencer 1986; Upton 2002). We have excluded another four studies (Gaasemyr 1977; Hemsley 1997; Marques 2001; Uslu 1992). The updated review uses updated methods, examines a broader range of suture materials (including fast‐absorbing synthetic materials) and includes results for new comparisons.
