Simplified scheme summarizing some of the main adiponectin central and peripheral effects and the related receptors involved. The scheme is based on the current knowledge and illustrates our hypothesis (orange arrow) concerning an additional peripheral mechanism through which adiponectin may influence food intake at the central level.
