Pulsed calcium stimulation for cerebellar PF-PC synapses. Calcium influx rates (top, ϕ(t) in Eq. 23) are used as input to our bidirectional synaptic plasticity model to generate the desired output of calcium spikes (bottom, [Ca] in Eq. 23). These match previously published simulation data by Kuroda et al.¹¹ (dashed), based on experimental data by Wang et al.¹⁰, which represent stimulations of PF alone (A), pulse amplitude of 1.8 μM) and paired PF and CF (B), pulse amplitude of 10 μM). Both calcium stimulations are applied at 1 Hz for 300 s.
