Schematic diagram illustrating the beneficial effects of terpineol during LPS-induced depressive behavior. Terpineol is monoterpene alcohol present in the essential oils of several species of plants, such as Eucalyptus, Artemisia princeps Pamp, and Cannabis sativa. Briefly, herein we demonstrated through in silico analysis and a behavioral assay that terpineol inhibited depressive-like behavior induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection, possibly through modulation of dopamine receptor type 2 (D2R), cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1R), and cannabinoid receptor type 2 (CB2R).
