The effect of N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs) on the expression of gadW and gadY. (A) AHLs promoted gadW but not gadY expression. E. coli SM10λpir was cultured in the presence of DMSO or 40 μM C4-HSL and 3-oxo-C12-HSL for 6 h, followed by real-time PCR analysis. (B) AHLs enhanced the promoter activity of gadW but not gadY.
