Mechanical activation of focal adhesion kinase was not altered by prolonged culture or LIV. MSCs were subjected to 2% equibiaxial strain at a rate of 0.2 Hz for 20 minutes and probed for Focal adhesion Kinase phosphorylation on Tyr397residue (pFAK). pFAK levels showed an 87% decrease (p < 0.05) in the LP group while LIV treated LP + LIV MSCs had a 300% increase in pFAK levels compared to the LP group. Upon strain application all three groups significantly increased pFAK levels compared to unstrained controls (p < 0.05) but were not statistically different from each other. n = 3/grp, group comparisons were made using one-way ANOVA followed by a Newman-Keuls post-hoc test. p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001, against control and each other.
