The excited triplet BP 1,2-diradical undergoes H-abstraction, leading to a stable ketyl radical and an α-carbon radical that is stabilized by the captodative effect of the electron-withdrawing carbonyl group and the electron-donating amino group. The ketyl radical and α-carbon radical recombine to form the crosslinked protein adducts.
