Figure 1

Structural model of the ADP/ATP carrier (AAC). The carrier consists of three separate domains: (1) an N-terminal regulatory domain with four calcium-binding EF-hands, (2) a loop domain containing an amphipathic α-helix, and (3) a mitochondrial ADP/ATP carrier. The carrier domain has six transmembrane helices (H1 to H6); three matrix loops (m1, m2, and m3), each containing a small hydrophilic helix (h1–2, h3–4, and h5–6); and two cytosolic loops (c1 and c2).
