STAS was present as MIP clusters. In in the 2D images, Numerous STAS MIP clusters were found in the alveolar parenchyma extend in a continuous manner within air spaces as far as 1.4 cm to the left of the image beyond the edge of the tumor (A). The 3D imaging (B-D) focused on the area highlighted in the black box in A, with serial sectioning demonstrated how the same floret micropapillary cluster that appeared floating in the air space in B, is attached to the alveolar wall on deeper sections C, D and E.
