Grouping of LEA proteins is according to Hundertmark and Hincha (2008). Modified after fig. 1 in (Rippin et al., 2017). In most organisms, each subfamily is represented by more than one member. Arabidopsis has at least two members in each subfamily and a total of 51 LEA proteins.
