Figure 2: Application of PPF to dECM.

Figure 2:

(A) Elastic modulus (MPa) exhibited by PPF, crosslinked under different UV exposure times. The elastic modulus of PPF trends upward between 2 and 45 min and reaches a plateau at 45 min (p> 0.05, Tukey multiple comparison). (B-D) Fold change of the XTT metabolic activity as a function of time (normalized to 8 h) for L929 cells exposed to PPF of various UV exposure times (reported in minutes). Ethanol washes (denoted ā€œeā€) after UV crosslinking of PPF improves the metabolic activity of cells (p< 0.05, Tukey multiple comparison). (E) dECM was dehydrated with graduated ethanol washes in order to apply PPF. The system was then crosslinked under UV light for different periods of time, followed by rehydration in reverse graduated ethanol washes, to produce a biohybrid material of decellularized pericardium reinforced with PPF (dECM+PPF). Groups with different letters indicate statistical difference. Data is presented as mean + standard deviation, except for the elastic modulus where data is mean ± standard deviation.
