Table 1. Risk stratification for potential COVID-19 infection in patients requiring gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Low-risk patient No symptoms (eg, cough, fever, shortness of breath or diarrhea)
AND
No history of contact with COVID positive individual
AND
No travel or residence in a location reporting community transmission of COVID-19 during previous 14 days
Negative testing for COVID 19 (with adequate accuracy and proper epidemiological setting)
High-risk patient Presence of symptoms with adequate sensitivity (eg, cough, fever, shortness of breath or diarrhea)
OR
Travel or residence in a location reporting community transmission of COVID-19 during previous 14 days (eg, most European regions in April 2020)
OR
Contact with COVID-19 positive (or very likely to be positive) individual
