Cycle of negative first impressions in ASD, in high- and low-camouflaging contexts. The low camouflage cycle was informed by research demonstrating that individuals with ASD quickly make poor first impressions on peers [59]. The high camouflage cycle was informed by retrospective reports of camouflaging experiences by autistic women [23, 37].
