Secondary structure determination of silk nanoparticles. (A) FTIR absorbance spectra in the amide I region of nanoparticles manufactured from 60-min degummed silk with the manual method. Controls include native silk as well as air-dried and autoclaved silk film. The dashed line marks the absorption band between 1622 and 1627 cm–1, which is characteristic of the antiparallel β-sheet structure. (B) Secondary structure content of native silk and silk nanoparticles. Native silk fibroin was obtained from the silk gland with minimal processing. Silk nanoparticles were manufactured either manually or by microfluidics.
