Activation of the PdOLP1 promoter by PtobZIP5 and PtobHLH7 and inhibition by PtoBLH8 and PtoWRKY40. (a) Diagrams of the reporter and effector constructs used for transactivation analysis. (b) Transcriptional activity assays in tobacco leaves showed that PtoBLH8 and PtoWRKY40 repress PdOLP1 promoter-driven GUS expression and that PtobZIP5 and PtobHLH7 activate GUS reporter gene expression. GUS expression in tobacco leaves not transfected with any effector was used as a control and was set to 1. Values are the mean ± standard error (SE) of three biological replicates.
