LL-37-induced cytokine (a)/chemokine (b) release from 16HBE14o– cells. Confluent 16HBE14o– cell monolayers were exposed for 6 h to 50 μg/ml LL-37 and 100 ng/ml LPS (a) or 50 μg/ml LL-37 and 10 ng/ml of IL-1β (b). Cytokine/chemokine release in cell culture supernatants was determined via ELISA. Results are expressed as mean values of cytokine/chemokine produced (Y scale-log scale) ± SD of three independent experiments (* p < 0.05 vs. untreated controls).
