SDS-PAGE of LPS shows identical patterns of the core region and the core region plus O polysaccharide repeating units from capsulated and non-capsulated Klebsiella serotypes. Black corpera at the bottom of the LPS ladders indicate pure core regions. Each additional thin band indicates core plus sugar repeating unit of increasing number of sugar repeating units. Identical LPS ladders indicate that the capsule phase variation does not affect LPS expression.
