(A) The portable HemeChip prototype readers were built for research use only in a robust Pelican Protector Case for clinical studies worldwide. The reader includes a rechargeable battery, a touch-screen tablet computer, and an integrated imaging system. The reader guides the user through the test procedure via on-screen instructions, allows real- time imaging, automated data analysis, result storage, and wireless transmission of test results. (B) The cartridge chamber in the reader houses electrical contacts, an imaging window, and a backlight for imaging in transmission mode. The chamber door is equipped with magnetic contacts as a safety feature for sensing the door status as open or closed.
