Dfr1p is essential for Candida albicans growth in vitro. A dfr1Δ/PTETO98-DFR1 strain was sequentially passaged in YPD broth (A), YNB broth (B), or fetal bovine serum (C), each supplemented with 5 μg/ml doxycycline (DOX). Following inoculation at approximately 5 × 105 cells/ml, each culture was incubated at 30°C for 24 h, and growth was measured after 24 h as the OD600 value. Relative growth was then expressed as a percentage of the untreated control, i.e., without doxycycline. The values presented here are representative of two independent experiments.
