ERα+ interneurons coexpress calretinin and substance P, but not GRP. (a) Approximately 40% of ERα‐expressing neurons immunostain for calretinin, a marker of a subset of excitatory interneurons in lamina II. (b) This figure illustrates that injection of Cre‐dependent EGFP reporter virus into the dorsal horn of Tac1‐Cre mice results in considerable coexpression of ERα and GFP, indicating coexpression of ERα and substance P.
