An RDC for an arbitrary system; the intensity (the probability of finding an interatomic distance, $r_{IJ}$ at some arbitrary distance, r) is plotted as a function of the distance, r, for nine values of $\alpha$ between 0.5 and 200.0. A larger value of $\alpha$ increases the decay of the exponential at each value of r, increasing the resolution of the RDC; very large values of $\alpha$ yield sparse RDCs.
