Proposed mechanism of AZM inhibition of bacteria induced MMP9 secretion by human bronchial epithelial cells. AZM suppresses the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, which subsequently diminishes the activity of AP-1. Inactivation of AP-1 reduces transcription of the MMP9 gene.
