Dectin-1, Dectin-2 and other yet unidentified pattern recognition receptors on antigen presenting cells interact with the GCP-rCpa1 vaccine to facilitate antigen presentation to T cells. Interaction of Dectin-1 and Dectin 2 trigger the activation of intracellular CARD9 adaptor molecule. CARD9 and other signal molecules form a complex to regulate the activation of downstream transcription factors such as NF-κB that induces the expression of cytokines TFN-α, IL-12, IL-6, IL-1α and IL-1β. These pro-inflammatory cytokines lead to a robust Th17 response against Coccidioides infection.
