DLP3 requires a functional type IV pilus to infect host strains D1585 and 280. Phage DLP3 is capable of infecting wildtype S. maltophilia strains D1585 and 280, infecting both at 109 PFU/mL, whereas phage infection is blocked in the ΔpilA and ΔpilT mutants. Complementation with the endogenous genes restores phage infection to wildtype levels. DLP3 plaquing ability on strain D1571 is shown for titer calculation, however, no mutants were constructed in this background. Images are representative of three biological replicates, each with three technical replicates.
