The prf-Synthesize container reads the JSON parameter file to define the RF parameters, and a NIfTI file to specify the stimulus contrast time series. The noise-free BOLD signal is calculated from the inner product of the stimulus and RF, which generates a time series. This time series is convolved with the HRF to obtain the noise-free BOLD signal. A parameterized noise model produces a signal that is added to generate the synthetic BOLD signal. RF: Receptive field; HRF: Hemodynamic response function. BOLD: blood-oxygen-level dependent.
