A putative model of kinases regulating monolignol enzymes activity. (A) Under potential stimulus such as pathogen infections, the CDPK proteins phosphorylate PAL2, decreasing the V_max of the enzyme and reducing lignification in plants; (B) Kinase(s) protein(s), after an endogenous or environmental stimulus, phosphorylates AldOMT2 at either of the two phosphorylation sites and negatively regulates the AldOMT2 activity.
