Experimental paradigms testing for specific aspects of social cognition. (A) The Identification of Emotional Expressions in Voices was tested with verbal stimuli from the Geneva Multimodal Emotion Portrayals (GEMEP) corpus (30). (B) Patients with HL compared to healthy controls were less able to correctly assign emotional expressions in voices to the respective emotion or to the correct emotion category (family accuracy score). (C) Trustworthiness of Faces was tested with a validated dataset of computer-generated faces (reproduced with the kind permission of A. Todorov) (32). In each trial of the task, participants had to assign which of two faces presented they found more trustworthy. (D) Patients with HL did not differ from controls in assessing the trustworthiness of faces across all trials of the task. *p < 0.05.
