Model Showing How WRNIP1 Functions in ICL Repair

(1) WRNIP1 is recruited to an ICL in the chromatin, potentially assisted by a hypothetical protein that is ubiquitinated. (2) The FANCD2/FANCI complex is recruited, causing a conformational change upon interaction with DNA. (3) The FANCD2/FANCI complex is monoubiquitinated, causing another conformational change that leads to its ring-like structure encircling the DNA helix. (4) Additional ICL repair factors are recruited. (5) The ICL is repaired.
