Visible signs of flagellar damage, with select frames taken from sample B. We see evidence of distal cytoplasmic blebbing, present here as darker, broader regions towards the tip of the flagellum, highlighted by an annotated white circle. In our sample of 137 swimmers that had undergone a freeze–thaw process, approximately one in four individual spermatozoa were found to exhibit visually identifiable blebbing.
