The effect of exogenously added pyruvate on the stationary phase of growth of S. mutans UA159 wild type and Pta-AckA pathway derivative strains. Wild type (a), Δpta (b), ΔackA (c), KB12 (pta-complemented, (d) and KB034 (ackA-complemented, (e) strains were grown in BHI, supplemented by different concentrations of pyruvate (0, 10 and 40 mM). Optical density at 600 nm was monitored every 30 min at 37 °C using the Bioscreen C lab system. The results are representative of three independent experiments.
