Normal protein translation involves tRNA with linked amino acids matching with the mRNA at the A site. The nascent peptide chain at the P site is then transferred to the incoming amino acid and the tRNA is moved to the P site to enable a new amino-acyl-tRNA to enter the A site (a), leading to further protein translation and protein production. Omacetaxine blocks the A site (b), thereby inhibiting protein synthesis
