The ole and oapB genes frequently co-occur in bacterial genomes. Left, the gene for OLE RNA is present in the genomes of 296 bacterial species whose DNA has been completely sequenced. Of these, 282 species also carry a gene for OapB. Right, the gene for OapB is more widespread among bacteria than is the gene for OLE RNA.
