Caco-2 cells were cultured using DMEM-galactose for 15 days. Differentiated cells were then incubated with A. simplex CE (0.5, 1 and 2 mg/mL) for 2 hours and basal, leak, maximal oxygen consumption rates and reserve capacity were determined. The results are expressed as mean ± SD. No significant differences were found in basal (P = 0.636), leak (P = 0.690) and maximal (P = 0.097) OCR and reserve capacity (P = 0.124).
