Intervention of the COVID-19 outbreak. The intervention at an early stage (before the inflection point, which is the point where the half width of a Gaussian peak is equivalent to the sigma of the Gaussian) of a viral breakout is the key to slow down the transmission of the virus. It not only decreases the peak value of newly confirmed daily cases, but also saves the time to increase the hospital capacity, each of which reduces the overall mortality rate.
