Insulin resistance does not impair overload-stimulated increases in plantaris muscle mass or glucose uptake. After 12 weeks of high-fat diet (HFD) feeding, mice underwent unilateral synergist ablation surgery to induce overload (OVL) of the plantaris muscle. Five days later isolated plantaris muscles were weighed (A), and [3H]-2-deoxy-d-glucose uptake assessed in the absence of insulin (B). Data are mean ± standard deviation. Statistical analysis was performed using a 2-way ANOVA with Tukey’s post-hoc analysis. N = 38–40 muscles/group (A), or 10 muscles/group (B). p < 0.05 # vs. sham (Sh); * vs. low-fat diet (LFD).
