Primary and secondary hemostasis after vascular injury.

Legend: Primary and secondary hemostasis. Vascular injury leads to vasoconstriction, platelet activation (primary hemostasis) and thrombus formation via coagulation cascade (secondary hemostasis). Ischemic injury can result from thrombosis.
