Values given are means ± SEM of 3 experiments (n = 12). One-way ANOVA was used for statistical analysis followed by Tukey's posttest. p < 0.05, ∗∗p < 0.01; ∗∗∗p < 0.001 compared with the untreated group (#); all the drugs were administered intraperitoneally for 7 days. Colitis was induced on the 6th day with intrarectal administration of 0.1 ml 6% acetic acid. Mice were assessed 24 hrs after induction of colitis. DAI [18] = (weight loss + stool consistency + rectal bleeding)/3; mortality rate = (mice died in a group/total number of mice in that group) × 100. DAI: disease activity index.
