Cultures were grown under iron-replete conditions in LB broth to mid-log phase and rhamnose was added one hour before harvest and protein extraction. Cell-free protein extracts in a 20 mM citrate buffer were supplemented with 40 mM DL-isocitrate and increase in absorbance was measured at 240 nm in a spectrophotometer.
