Factors altering fetal and perinatal renal development. Nephrogenesis is complete at 36 weeks of gestation. Effects on kidney development can be wide ranging from oligonephropathy, glomerular hypertrophy, tubular defects (Chen et al., 2004), and altered activity of the fetal renin-angiotensin system (RAS). Genetic factors are excluded.
