For (a), the bulk OC 14C ages of event deposits are much older, because a higher amount of old carbon is remobilized. Note that, due to the exponential decay of 14C, the model is most sensitive when remobilizing young carbon, and less sensitive when remobilizing old or even blank carbon. In (b), the age shifts are expected to be small, due to remobilization of young surface sediment.
