A variety of wave morphologies detected near the equator. As shown in these images, the equatorial region is often populated with both short and long wave trains with both orthogonal and “tilted” wavefronts, often overlapping. Toward the bottom of panels a and d are a set of waves defined by discrete white clouds, more of which are shown closer up in Figure 8.
